Have You Considered Braille as Part of Your Accessible Marketing Strategy?

With one in five Australians living with a disability, reaching every potential customer means thinking beyond standard formats.Braille is one of the most powerful and most overlooked tools in accessiblemarketing.

Why Braille Matters for Your Brand

Braille isn't just a compliance checkbox. It's a genuine statement that your organisation values every person it serves. Here's what it delivers:

Independence. Braille lets visually impaired readers engage with your materials on their own terms, no assistance required.

Inclusion. Equalaccess to information means equal participation. Menus, business cards, training manuals, and marketing collateral become available to everyone.

Employability. For organisations looking to attract diverse talent, Braille-accessible materials signal an inclusive workplace from the very first touchpoint.

Compliance and social procurement. For government departments and large organisations with a Disability Inclusion Action Plan, converting key documents to Braille helps action that plan. Working with a not-for-profit disability enterprise like Flagstaff Print, Mailand Digital may also fulfil social procurement requirements.

How Braille Printing Works

Braille uses raised dots on paper to create text that's read by touch. Flagstaff's team translates standard text into Braille code using specialised software, and is one of only a handful of Braille printers operating in Australia.

One thing to plan for: Braille requires more space than standard print. A typical Braille page runs 25 characters per line across 40 lines, compared to 60 to 80 characters per line in regular print. A single printed page may become several Braille pages, so factoring this into your project scope early makes a real difference.
